Life is a never ending cacophony of events that are designed to
stymie us. We sit, surrounded by half a billion pieces of
information; angles and lines, sounds and smells. A lack of focus
provides us with a deluge of distractions. The distractions keep us
reeling from event to event, like a drunken sailor going from bar
to bar. The focus runs away from us like the proverbial monkey.
The further from it the easier to slide further and further in an
infinite loop of cause and effect… until finally, we find ourselves
deep in an abyss of chaos, wallowing in the petty distractions of
life instead of focusing upon that which makes life worth living in
the first place. Since the first glob of goo picked itself out of the
primordial masses and shouted to the sky, “I AM!” we have
constantly accelerated our lives and our distractions. Is it any
wonder our divorce rate is so high? Or that our caring is spread so
thin? Or even that our children grow up with so little time to be
children… Our entire society is on fast forward so we don’t have
to see what is around us. Focus becomes an energy drink, clarity
becomes about nasal medicine, and life becomes a board game full
of random events and setbacks. What is the solution? Don’t ask
me man, I am too busy chasing the monkey.
